About Brian
Brian was born at Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville, TN on April
3, 1973. He is the one and only child of Ken and Jane. Brian spent a
lot of time learning to entertain himself when he was young, and
even now he is very self-sufficient and wholeheartedly enjoys time
spent alone.
Brian went to several different schools growing up, Tate’s School
of Discovery, Ball Camp Elementary, Christian Academy of Knoxville,
Bearden High School, and then the
McCallie School,
a boarding school in Chattanooga, TN. He was always active in
sports, primarily in soccer and tennis. When he was 12, he decided
to focus on tennis, and he began to practice almost every day for
the next 12 years. It was tennis and academics that brought him to
McCallie, where he helped win a Team State Championship and he was a
Doubles State Champion.
For college, Brian attended the
University of the
South in Sewanee, TN—a Division III Athletics school with 1400
students and a 10,000 acres campus on top of beautiful Monteagle
Mountain near Chattanooga. While there he earned a BS in Political
Science and attended NCAA Division III Tennis Nationals all four
years, as well as earning one Singles All-American and two Doubles
All-American titles. He was also a member of the Order of the
Gownsmen, a University of the South academic society, after his
sophomore year.
Upon graduation, Brian decided to try his hand at professional
tennis. He traveled all over the United States and met people from
all over the world. But he also found out how incredibly talented
many of those people could be! If you ask him if he was really good
at tennis, he’ll answer, “It depends on who you compare me to.” Of
course, if you challenge him to a game, he’ll beat you still in no
time flat!
In March of 1997, Brian moved to Charlotte, NC to “get a job in
the real world and start paying off student loans”. He worked for a
company called Internet in Fort Mill, SC for four years. Then, he
used his Political Science degree as a way to get his foot in the
door at the
Premier, Inc. Political Advocacy division where he uses his
self-taught computer skills to do website coding and design.
Brian is very much looking forward to marrying Barbee.
