Well, after getting married and purchasing our first home, my life has been about learning the quirks of a 60-year-old house, work, and learning how to be a student again.

First, the house: The do-it-yourself books do an overall good job of showing each step to complete a project. What they don't show is what 60 years of age will do to add untold steps to complete a seemingly simple project. Since moving in, the adventurous job we attempted (successfully!) was to add a cubby closet in the kitchen to hold the refrigerator. Beyond that, we have refinished the hardwood floors, replaced all the electrical outlets, changed some plumbing fixtures, added security lights, and made the personal touches to make it our home.

Work: Work is, well, work. I am really love what I do (Manager, Web Strategy) and the company I do it for (Premier, Inc.). Most recently Premier was awarded the 2006 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. This award has been called the "Nobel prize for business" and while it is United States companies only, it is quite an honor.

School: Ten years after completing my undergraduate degree from The University of the South, I decided to go to graduate school for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Gardner-Webb University. The program is designed for working professionals to complete the requirements in two years - that is two classes for fall, two classes for spring, and two classes for summer, then repeat again - no breaks. Well, I am two-thirds complete and must say the program has been a blast. Yes, the endless list of readings, papers to write, and projects to complete can be a bit overwhelming, but the people I have met and the information that I have been explosed to has been quite an experience. Barbee has created quite a list of book reviews. About the only ones I can review would be Creating & Executing Strategies, 15th edition or Quantitative Methods, 7th edition. They are not exactly the type of books you want to curl with a warm fire on a cold, snowy day and spend hours just browsing through!
